Lenora Gaskins Grooms, 92, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Claude S. Grooms, Jr. died Thursday, February 25, 2016. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 in St. Mark United Methodist Church, 413 Geddes Avenue at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Lenora was born February 4, 1924 in Huger, South Carolina, daughter of the late Jim Daniel Gaskins and Ida Parsons Gaskins. After her schooling in Berkeley County she moved to Charleston where she met and married her beloved husband Claude and lived for the remainder of her life. Lenora enjoyed several vocations throughout her life and was employed by Bi-Lo when she retired. She was an active member of St. Mark United Methodist Church for many years.
Lenora was preceded in death by her husband Claude; brothers: Cohen, Orris, Daniel, Sidney, Richard, James, Frank, and Ravenal Gaskins; sister: Annie Morris and Azalee Miller. She is survived by her brother Jeff "Neighbor" Gaskins; sons: Marvin Grooms (Jeannie) of Charleston, SC, and Donald Grooms (Debbie) of Piedmont, SC; special nephew David Miller, formerly of Charleston, SC; grandchildren: Shelli Beebe (Bob Hood) of Summerville, SC, Brian Grooms (Melanie) of Simpsonville, SC, Cameron Craft (Calvin) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Bonnie Duncan (Jeff) of Clemson, SC; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 413 Geddes, Avenue, Charleston, SC 29407.
