Leila Shealy was born June 22, 1921 in Hollow Creek, Lexington County, SC and lived in Batesburg-Leesville as well as Charleston, SC, widow of Gordon Roland Shealy died Monday, March 10, 2014. Mrs. Shealy is survived by two sons, Gary R. Shealy (Linda), Gregory K. Shealy (Kay), one daughter, Susan Shealy Feldman, all of Charleston, SC; five grandchildren, Kevin Shealy, Cary Shealy, Torry Shealy, Roland Feldman, Michael Feldman and four great-granchildren, Ashlyn, Chad, William and Addison. Predeceased by husband Gordon R. Shealy, parents, William Lawrence Smith and Essie Lee Livingston Smith and three brothers and four sisters.
She graduated from Batesburg-Leesville High School and attended Columbia College, Columbia, SC. Leila retired from the personnel planning department at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Mrs. Shealy was a member of Cherokee and St. Mark United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Suszanna Wesley circle and was very devoted to her family. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Leila enjoyed traveling throughout the US and abroad. She loved her home, cooking, crocheting and especially working in her yard and growing beautiful flowers. She loved birds and enjoyed nature and bird watching, fishing, boating and to spend time at her Lake Murray home in Prosperity, SC.Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 13, 2014 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 10:00 am where graveside services will be held in Ridge Crest Memorial Park, Batesburg, SC at 3:00 pm, where Leila will rest with her beloved husband Gordon, the love of her life. The family will receive friends Wednesday in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.
