Lee Richard Kelce, 83, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Shermalyn Fowler Kelce entered into eternal rest Monday, May 21, 2018. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 24, 2018 in First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, 53 Meeting Street at 1:00 p.m. Interment, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday in First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, Molly Wier Hall from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Lee was born September 14, 1934 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, son of the late Ted L. Kelce and Maba Davis Kelce. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from The Citadel in 1956. Lee was listed in the 1956 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American University and Colleges, was designated a Distinguished Military Student and was a member of the Summerall Guard. Upon graduation he entered the U.S. Army as a Commissioned Officer. Lee was stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas where he served as an instructor for the Nike Hercules Guided Missile program. Upon his discharge, he was employed by Peabody Coal Company, where he served in various operation and sales positions retiring as President of the Indiana Division. While employed with Peabody, Lee served as President of the Indiana Coal Association and the Indiana Mining Institute. He was also Director of the Ohio Coal Association, the Alabama Mining Institute and the Kentucky Coal Association. Lee was a member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church and the Kiawah Island Club.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shermalyn; daughter, Denise F. Kelce; son, David S. Kelce both of Charleston, SC; and one granddaughter, Lynlee F. Pollis. He was preceded in death by his son, Ted R. Kelce.
