Lcdr Charles Benjamin Martin

Entered into eternal rest on the morning of Friday, July 23, 2010, LCDR Charles "Chuck" Benjamin Martin, USN (Ret), husband of Jacqueline Shook Martin, residence, Goose Creek, SC.  Relatives and friends of LCDR and Mrs. Charles Martin are invited to attend his funeral service in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS  CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Rd, N. Charleston, Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at eleven o'clock.  Interment will follow at two o'clock in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC, with Military Honors.  The family will receive friends at Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel from six until eight o'clock on Monday.


Chuck was born in Toronto, Ohio, on September 7, 1932, to John Bertrum Martin and Virgie McGaffic Martin.  He was the youngest of eleven children.  He was raised Roman Catholic and entered the Navy where he spent his entire career.  He served in the Korean and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Conflicts earning a Good Conduct Medal and star in lieu of second award, Meritorious Unit Commendations, Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal.  He was Commander of Naval Telecommunications Command and he also served in the Fleet Reserve.  He retired from the Navy after 23 years of service.


Chuck is  survived by his wife of 52 years  Jacqueline "Jackie" Shook Martin , two daughters; Darlene R. Hardenburger (Duane), Cynthia M. Denniston (Steve); four grandchildren, UT1 Victor A.  Martino (Emily), Maria K. Senter (Dale), Zachary M. Denniston (Robin), Tyler M. Denniston; three great grandchildren, Melanie R. Mounteer, Christopher L. Denniston, and Mackenzie E. M. Denniston; a brother, Wayne Yeager; sisters-in-law, Vickie Yeager, Jo Ann Wilson, Barbara J. Geary (Joe), Donna Shook; and brother-in-law, FTCM (SW) Terry L. Shook (Ret) (Jennie), and many nieces, nephews and  cousins.  Chuck is predeceased by his siblings; Agnes Y. Ambrose, Margaret Y. Mackilligan, John H. Yeager, Jr., Glen A. Yeager, Earl Yeager, Dolores Y. McDonald, Mary Alma Veres and Homer Yeager who died in infancy.
