LCDR Ronald Victor Gillette USN, (Ret.), 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Jean Gillette entered into eternal rest Sunday, August 12, 2018. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 15, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, August 16, 2018 in Old St. Andrews Parish Church, 2604 Ashley River Road at 11:00 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Old St. Andrew's Parish Churchyard.

Ron was born July 7, 1930 in Binghamton, New York, son of the late Sylvester Lamont Gillette and Margaret Reynolds Gillette. He was a retired U.S. Navy Veteran having served December 1949-July 1975 and a retired engineer with Cummins Engineering. Ron was a Boy Scout leader, member of the Charleston Elks Lodge #242 B.P.O.E., Shadowmoss Men's Golf Association, Retired Officer's Association, Red Cross volunteer at the Charleston Area Naval Hospital Pharmacy, and a longtime member of Old St. Andrew's Parish Church.

In his later years, Ron was affectionately known as Poppi by all who knew him. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would joke that if he had known they were this much fun he would have had them first! Ron was also known as the Poker Man at Ashley River Plantation, his home for the last 6 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jean Gillette of Charleston, SC, three daughters, Lisa Seagle (Mike) of Charleston, SC, Vicki Filan (Mike) of Charleston, SC, Leslie Herman (Steven) of Adams Runs, SC; eight grandchildren, Christopher Filan, Matthew Seagle, Erin Wilson (James), Hannah Grace Porter (Eric), Justin Seagle, Allison Seagle and Emma Herman; three great-grandchildren, Christian, Clark and Mary Alice; great-niece, Lindsey Guinazzo (Bill). He was preceded in death by parents and grandson, Jeremy Seagle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Old St. Andrew's Parish Church, 2604 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC 29414 or The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 269 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
