Lavern Delass McDonald, 80, of Elloree, South Carolina, husband of Juanita Sharp McDonald died Tuesday, October 10, 2017. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 12, 2017 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street at 7:00 p.m. Interment, Beaufort National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Downtown Chapel.
Lavern was born February 22, 1937 in Iowa Falls, Iowa, son of the late Alva McDonald and Gladys McDonald. He served 28 years in the United States Navy, retiring as a Petty Officer First Class. After his retirement, Lavern worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard until the base was closed in 1996.
Lavern is survived by his son, Ronald "Butch" McDonald of North Charleston, SC; daughter, Virginia Myers of Goose Creek, SC; three step-daughters: Tina Murray (George) of Summerville, SC, Angela Juaristic (Jorge) of Ocala, FL and Arlene Hudgens (Mike) of Elloree, SC; step-son, Tom Altman of Manning, SC; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son, Robert McDonald and daughter, Marilyn Seagraves.
