LaVern Wilson LeMacks, 80, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of the late Delilah Cannington Lemacks, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, July 17, 2024. His Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, at 11:00 am. Burial will immediately follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel. 

Vern was born in Charleston, South Carolina on March 13, 1944, son of Lawton S. Lemacks and Josie H. Lemacks McManus. Vern attended The Murray Vocational School with a focus in wood working. His passion and skills for this craft allowed him to make just about anything. Whether it was building furniture or fixing household items, he was always willing to help his friends and family. With his giving personality and quick wit, he could make friends with a sign post. 

Vern retired from Westvaco after 42 years of service. Known by his coworkers as “the Wizard”, he began working in the wood yard and retired as the Supervisor of the Chemical Division. Vern served in the US Army for 4 years and later joined the National Guard. Vern also was a proud member of the Washington Light Infantry and served in the Color Guard division. 

He is survived by two sons, Christopher Vern LeMacks of Charleston, SC, James Rodney LeMacks of Denmark, SC; two sisters, Nettie Patrick of Hollywood, SC, Donna Way of SC; two brothers, Eddie (Debbie) Lemacks of Lexington, SC, Jimmy McManus of Georgetown, SC; nephew, Gene (Jinks) Patrick of Hollywood, SC; niece, Bonnie (Victor) Banzon of Charleston, SC; four great nieces, Rachel Patrick, Danielle (Eddie) Zachmann, Megan Patrick, Ashley (Austin) Jur of Charleston, SC. 

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by brother, Lawton (Buddy) Lemacks of Ravenel, SC; brother-in-law, Perry Patrick of Hollywood, SC; nephew, James (Ricky) Patrick of Charleston, SC. 

Memorials may be made to the Charleston Animal Society.
