Laurie Detwiler Martin

October 16, 1952 — October 17, 2010

October 17, 2010 was a sad day for all when Laurie Ann Detwiler Martin passed.  She was born to her parents Commander Fred Maurice Detwiler and Betty Louise Shields Detwiler in Newport, Rhode Island on October 16, 1952.  Shortly after she was moved around from coast to coast, including other countries due to her Navy Brat upbringing. Her parents settled in Charleston and she graduated from St. Andrew and went on to get her BS degree at University of South Carolina.  She worked faithfully at the Medical University of South Carolina for more than 20 years as a Medical Technician.  Laurie met and fell in love with Joseph Reynolds Martin  whom she married shortly after and had three children. She loved the beach and the life style surrounding it especially surfing, boating and beach photography. She was an amazing mother, a true friends and a great human being.  She was a hip lady and will be truly missed by all.

Laurie is survived by her two children, Joshua Detwiler Martin and Ryan Elizabeth Martin both of Charleston; her step mother, Patsy Brewer Detwiler of Summerton, SC; her former mother-in-law, Anna Margaret Martin of Charleston; and good friend, Reid Anson of James Island.  She was preceded in death by her son, Jacob Christopher Martin; her parents; and her former husband.

The relatives and friends of Laurie are invited to attend the celebration of her life at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at four o'clock.  The family will receive friends at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway one hour prior to the service.  Her children and close friends invite you to a casual outdoor reception to continue the celebration following the service.  PURA VIDA MOM
