Larry Brent Brewer, 77, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 21, 2026. Larry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather “Opa”, whose caring heart and dedication to service touched all who knew him.
Born on August 12, 1948, in Statesville, North Carolina, Larry was the beloved son of the late Joe Cephus Brewer, Jr. and the late Dolores Elaine Alley Brewer. His formative years were rooted in the values of hard work and commitment, which he exemplified throughout his life, earning his Master of Public Administration degree from Troy State University in 1989.
Larry answered the call to serve his country at a young age, embarking on a distinguished career in the United States Air Force when he enlisted in 1969 and later received his Commission as an officer on May 6, 1981. During his 24 years of service to our country, he fulfilled the role of Personnel Officer with honor and integrity, earning numerous accolades including but not limited to the Meritorious Service Medal. Larry earned the respect of his colleagues and those he led, and he had a remarkable career with numerous overseas tours in Europe during the Cold War era. Even after his retirement from the Air Force in 1993, Larry continued to devote his time to causes that uplifted others, serving as the lead fundraiser for the Combined Federal Campaign with Trident United Way and contributing his talents to First Baptist Church of Charleston.
Family was at the heart of Larry’s life, and he is best known for being a gracious host to all who had the privilege of coming to his home to enjoy a delicious grilled meal at his dinner table. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and absolutely loved music of all kinds. He is survived by his cherished wife of 50 years, “Ineke” Gezina Johanna Breunesse Brewer of Mount Pleasant, SC, with whom he shared many years of amazing memories, travel, laughter, and love. Larry’s legacy continues through his son, Richard “Brent” Brewer of Mount Pleasant, SC, and his daughter, Sarah Brewer Verstraten (Florens), also of Mount Pleasant, SC. He was immensely proud of his grandchildren, Phillip and Vera Verstraten, treasuring every moment spent with them. Larry is also survived by his adopted sister, Katherine Kinstle of Brunswick, GA; his brothers and sisters-in-law: William Donald Kay (Maria) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Theo Breunesse (Heleen) of the Netherlands, and Jane Brewer of Troutman, NC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who were all very special to him.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Cephus Brewer, Jr. and Dolores Elaine Brewer, as well as his brother, Michael Brewer.
A funeral service to honor and remember Larry’s life will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, at 3:00 pm. Interment with military honors will follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories on Thursday beginning at 1:00 pm at the Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Those who were privileged to know Larry Brent Brewer will remember him for his unwavering dedication to others, his service to his country and community, and the love he extended to his family. His life stands as an enduring example of integrity, kindness, and devotion. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
