Larry Holbrook Addington, 93, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of the late Amanda Adams Addington entered into eternal rest Tuesday, March 31, 2026. His service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel.

Larry was born November 16, 1932 in Charlotte, North Carolina, son of the late Laurence Eugene Addington and the late Beatrice Gertude Willson Addington, and grew up in Asheville, NC. He graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School, received an A.B. and M.A. degree in History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and earned a Ph. D. degree in History at Duke University, Durham, NC. He served on active duty as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He married Amanda Adams of Charlotte NC and taught at San Jose State College in California before accepting an appointment to the faculty of The Citadel in Charleston, SC. Before his retirement, he was Professor and Head of the History Department, The Citadel. He was the author of several books and articles on historical subjects, and a member of the Society for Military History, the American Historical Society, the Southern Historical Society, and the SC Historical Society.

He is survived by daughter, Catherine Dantzler (Harold) of Hanahan, SC; grandchildren: Jack, Daniel and Caroline Dantzler; and cousins: Marilyn Addington Schaefer and Donald Edward Addington (Jean).
