Laney Shuler Spigener

Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of November 24, 2010.  Laney Shuler Spigener, Sr., husband of Harriet Parler Spigener.  Residence, James Island, SC.  The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Laney S. Spigener, Sr. are invited to attend the funeral services of the former Saturday, November, 27, 2010 in Bethany United Methodist Church at 11 a.m.  Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery.  Friends may call at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel Friday between 5 and 7 p.m.

Laney was born March 12, 1933 in St. Matthew's, SC, the son of Ashley Whiteman Spigener and Annelle Inabinet Spigener.  He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and a member of Sigma Chi.  He was also a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.  Laney was a pilot in the US Air Force and served from 1955 to 1959.  He was a Special Agent with the Naval Investigative Service and retired from the N.C.I.S as Regional Director of Operations.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years; his daughter, Julia S. Weed (Joseph) of James Island, SC; his son, Reverend Laney S. Spigener, Jr. (Martha) of Lynchburg, VA; eight grandchildren, Cam Gray (Angel), Ashley Spigener, Bruce Spigener, Jennifer Carter (David), Shuler Spigener, Banks Weed, Jake Weed and Hattiebelle Spigener; two  great grandchildren, Abby and Carrie Gray; his brother, Ashley W. "Bud" Spigener, Jr. of Gaston, SC.  He was predeceased by a brother, William Paul Spigener.
