Kydie Olivia Hopkins Kay, 95, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of 71 years to the late Capt. Robert Byrd Kay, U.S. Army, (Ret.), entered into eternal rest Thursday, April 7, 2016. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 10, 2016, in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment will be held Monday, April 11, 2016, in Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort SC, at 11:00 a.m. Her memorial service will be held Monday, April 11, 2016, in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 712 Wappoo Road, at 3:00 p.m.
Kydie was born March 11, 1921 in Richmond, Virginia, daughter of the late Charles R. Hopkins and the late Sinah Landry Hopkins. She was a member of St. Andrews Garden Club, Presbyterian Women of Church, Carolina Chapter of the 4th Division Association, and a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Kydie enjoyed knitting and sewing for the Women's Mission Projects.
She is survived by her children: daughter, Kydie K.Young of Social Circle, GA; son, Stephen J. Kay (Patricia) of Charleston, SC; brother, Charles R. Hopkins, Jr., (Mildred) of Roanoke, VA; daughter-in-law, Sheryl S. Kay; six grandchildren: Holley Vaughn (Bruce) of Milledgeville, GA, Susan Campbell (Randall) of Social Circle, GA, Rebecca Chambers (Ron) of Milledgeville, GA, Patrick Kay (Kathi) of Milledgeville, GA, Landry Brown (Andy) of Hollywood, SC, and Andrew Kay (Taylor) of Hollywood, SC; six great-grandchildren: Erica, Nick, Brad, Beverly, Liz, and Jacob; and two great-great-grandchildren, Haley, and Shyanne. Kydie is predeceased by her son, Robert W. Kay.
