Kurt Rodney
Blackwelder
Nov 15, 1954 — Jul 3, 2026
Kurt Rodney Blackwelder, 71, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Born on November 15, 1954, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Kurt was the son of the late Thomas Marvin Blackwelder Jr. and Sara Marguerite Stevens Blackwelder. He graduated from Wingate College and later made Mount Pleasant his home. Before retiring, he owned Builders Services, an erosion control company that served builders throughout the Lowcountry for nearly 20 years.
As a boy, Sundays were spent on his grandparents’ farm surrounded by family. Those memories stayed with him. Family mattered to Kurt. He valued time with his extended family and stayed close to a small circle of lifelong friends who meant more to him than words could express. Though a man of few words, he had a quiet sense of humor that often caught people by surprise.
Kurt thrived when life was simple. Some of the best family memories were made on the water. He loved boating, fishing, hunting, and exploring around his mountain home on his side-by-side. The outdoors gave him peace.
Kurt is survived by his wife of 28 years, Diane Hall Blackwelder; his sons, Ethan Thomas Blackwelder and Matthew Edward Blackwelder, both of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; his brother and best friend, Thomas Marvin Blackwelder III and his wife, Jennifer, of Ravenel, South Carolina; his sister, Emily Ann Blake and her husband, Ron, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and his beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces.
He carried close to his heart a simple sentiment passed down from his parents: “Love and Be Loved.”
