Knowlton Dwight Kennerly, 83, of Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, husband of Karie "Kay" Branton Kennerly, entered into eternal rest Monday, October 27, 2025. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 3, 2025 in the First Baptist Church of Ravenel, 5987 Hwy 165 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church of Ravenel Churchyard. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel.
Dwight was born October 8, 1942 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, son of the late Knowlton A. Kennerly and Winnie Judy Kennerly. Dwight graduated from Orangeburg High School. He became a South Carolina Highway Patrolman and served as District Lieutenant. During his 35 years of service, his duties included the honor of being assigned to serve Governor James B. Edwards (1975-1979).
After retiring, Dwight became a Certified Master BBQ judge and the founder of Wadmalaw Island BBQ Sauce.
Dwight was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church and a recipient of the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina's highest civilian honor. He was also a member and past Commodore of the Sea Island Yacht Club.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by his adoring children, Karie Ann Kennerly Crowther (Billy), Michael Dwight Kennerly (Nikki); grandsons, William Henry Crowther, James Knowlton Crowther; niece, Katrina Spears; and nephews, Darryl Kennerly (Gina), and Jamie Kennerly (Nilsa).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George Nathan Kennerly; and his nephew, Nathan Kennerly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Hospice or Storm Eye Institute at MUSC Foundation.
