Kevin Dana Mahorney

The world was left a little less bright and fun when Kevin Dana Mahorney, 37, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Emily Jeanene "Jenny" Burris Mahorney entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. His funeral service will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023, in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Rd. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Dr. Kevin Frederick who married Kevin and Jenny 10 years ago will be officiating.  
 
Kevin was born July 1, 1986, in Fairfax, Virginia, the son of Laurence Sommers Mahorney and Amanda Dowden Buckhout Mahorney.  He graduated from Robinson High School in Virginia where he formed many lifelong friendships, and continued his education receiving his degree from Coastal Carolina University.  He was a project manager for Hitt Construction. 

Kevin will be remembered for the way he loved his family, friends, and life. He never met a stranger and was always the first to lend an unconditional helping hand to those in need. His zest for life was contagious, and he brightened any room that he entered.  Along with being an avid surfer and fisherman (most often accompanied by his brother, Nick, and son, Thomas), Kevin was a forever Washington Redskins fan.  

He is survived by his wife, Jenny Burris Mahorney and their four children, Thomas Burke, Cora Jane, Lillian Quinn, and Jonathan Boone, of Charleston, SC; mother, Amanda Mahorney of Mt. Pleasant, SC; father, Larry Mahorney (girlfriend Joanne Brown) of Beaufort, SC; brother, Nick Mahorney (Crissy) of Charleston, SC; grandmother Ethel “Mumzie” Buckhout of Wytheville, VA; parents-in-law, Ray and Jeanene “Dessy” Burris of Valdese, NC; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Goodwin (Bryan) and Jane Dart (Kevin) of Fredricksburg, VA, and  Marianne Burris of  Valdese, NC; uncles Chris Buckhout of New Mexico, Dana Buckhout (Michelle) of Isle of Palms, SC, and John Buckhout (Philippa) of Catharpin, VA; cousins Quinn Buckhout, Dane Buckhout, Lauren Buckhout, Jaiden Buckhout, and Janelle Buckhout; nieces Smyth Mahorney of Charleston, SC, and Ophelia Goodwin and Louisa Dart of Fredericksburg, VA.
