Kenneth (Ken) Donald Spink, age 82, passed away on August 30, 2026. He was born March 25, 1944 to Earle and Alice Spink in Watertown, New York. He graduated from The Citadel in 1966 and was commissioned in the US Army. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam during wartime, as well as at Fort Rucker and Redstone Arsenal in Alabama, Fort Totten in New York, and Frankfurt, Germany. His last active duty assignment was as the commander of the Army’s largest postal unit and his highest rank attained was Major. His multiple awards and commendations include the Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star, and Meritorious Service Medal.
Ken continued his service to the country in the civil service in Bremerhaven, Heidelberg and Darmstadt, Germany; Camp Zama and Okinawa, Japan; and Fort Drum, New York. He retired from civil service as the civilian deputy to the base commander in Okinawa Japan. He and Alice returned to her hometown of Summerville in December 2007 after more than 40 years of combined military and civilian service with the Army, which included 22 years overseas.
He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Alice Everett Wood Spink. He is survived by his children Laura Spink (Michael) and David Spink. He is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and his extended family in the Charleston area. The family thanks all of Ken’s caregivers, especially his devoted long-time caregiver, Melvina Robinson.

A service of Committal will be held October 13, 2026, at Mt Pleasant Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. A service with full military honors will take place at his final resting place, Arlington National Cemetery, at a later date.
