Kenneth Frederick Skipper, Jr. 86, widower of Susan Morris Skipper, passed away May 3, 2025. Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 11:00am at Midland Park United Methodist Church, 2301 Midland Park Road, North Charleston. Burial will follow the service in Eccles United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1696 Eccles Church Road, Huger. His visitation will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home, Inc., Northwoods Chapel.
Dr. Kenneth Skipper graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in music education (B. Mus. Ed.). Prior to graduating from Miami he served four years as a musician in the United States Navy. He earned a Master's of Arts in Teaching degree (M. A. T) and an Education Specialist degree (Ed. S.) from The Citadel, Charleston, South Carolina. He earned a Doctorate in Educational Administration (Ed. D.) from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Dr. Skipper was a high school band director, an assistant principal of an elementary school, an administrative assistant for federal programs, and the principal of two elementary schools. He retired from the Charleston County School District, Charleston, South Carolina in 1991. In 1997 he became an adjunct professor for The Citadel and taught graduate students in The Citadel's Department of Education.
During his music career he played trumpet in jazz combos, big bands, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and shows for some of the country's most well known entertainers, such as: Bob Hope, Frankie Avalon, Boots Randolf, Liberace, Tanya Tucker, Joan Rivers, Floyd Crammer, Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Brenda Lee, Tommy Garrett Orchestra, The Dells and Peter Nero. Dr. Skipper also played with the Charleston Premier Big Band, Holiday on Ice and the Miss USA Pageant.
Survivors include two sons: Kenny Skipper (Andrea) and Freddie Skipper (Amy); grandchildren: Drew Skipper, Katie Skipper, Kendall Humphreville (John Evin), Alex Skipper, McKenzie Litchfield and Anna Litchfield, great grandchildren: Vaden Humphreville and John David Humphreville. Siblings: Larry Skipper (Judy), Harold Skipper (Rhonda) and Linda Skipper.
He is predeceased by his wife, Susan Morris and his parents Kenneth Frederick Skipper, Sr. and Mary Louise Wilson Skipper.
Memorials may be made in Dr. Skipper's honor to Midland Park United Methodist Church.
