Kenneth Marvin Scott

August 10, 1928 — June 20, 2010

Col. Kenneth Marvin Scott, USMC (Ret.), of Trapier Drive in James Island, SC, beloved husband of Nancy Dukes Scott, passed away the evening of June 19, 2010 at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC.  He was 81 at the time of his death.  His first wife, Bernadine Scott preceded him in death in January 2001.


The relatives and friends of Col. and Mrs. Kenneth Marvin Scott are invited to attend the memorial service of the former, Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at eleven o'clock in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Friends may call at Stuhr's Downtown Chapel Tuesday between five and seven o'clock.  Burial Services with full military honors will be conducted Thursday, September 30, 2010 in Arlington National Cemetery at three o'clock.


Col. Scott was born on August 10, 1928 in Millard, MO the son of the late Lawson and Blanche Scott.  Col. Scott enlisted in the Marine Corp. in 1946 at the age of 18 and was commissioned in 1948.  Col. Scott's service as a pilot in the United States Marine Corp. extended for nearly 28 years and included service in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.  Following his retirement from active duty in 1974, he and his family settled in Annandale, Virginia where he was employed by Booze Allen Hamilton, Inc. until his retirement.  Following the death of his first wife Bernadine Scott in 2001 he met Nancy Dukes.  They married in 2002 and settled in James Island, South Carolina where they lived until his death.


Col. Scott is survived by his three daughters from his marriage to Berna Scott:  Nancy Layne of Warrenton, Virginia, Jackie Barnhardt of Springfield, Virginia, and Candy Owens of Richmond, Virginia.  In addition, he is survived by six Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren.  He is survived in his marriage to Nancy Dukes Scott by his step-children, Corbey Dukes of Guatemala and Carol Buehler of Richmond, Virginia.  He is survived by five sisters, Frances Helton, Faye Newman, Nadine Pinkston, Neva Bucklew and Katherin Gregory.
