Kenneth Merrill "Ken" Robertson

Kenneth Merrill "Ken" Robertson, 79, died Thursday, March 31, 2016. Family and friends will be received Sunday, April 3, 2016, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street, between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 4, 2016, at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 1605 Harbor View Road, on James Island, followed by a graveside service at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Ken is preceded in death by Frances G. Robertson, his wife of 57 years; son-in-law, Kevin Beeks; and by his parents, Carrie Robertson and Allen Robertson. Ken is survived by his son, Kenneth "Kenny" Robertson Jr of Statesville, NC and his daughter, Kristi Beeks of Johns Island. He is survived by brothers: Walter Robertson of Columbia, SC, Roy Robertson and Al Robertson, both of Charleston. He is also survived by sisters: Louise Gratzick and Ruth Branks, both of Charleston, and Annette O'Çonnor of Vienna, VA. Ken's pride and joy were his grandchildren: Rachel Beeks of Johns Island, 1LT Kenneth Robertson III of Ft. Sill, OK, Rebecca Beeks of Johns Island, and CDT Allen Robertson of Clemson University.
Ken is a Charlestonian born and raised, and always a Citadel man by both degree and virtue. Ken graduated from Rivers High School (54') and The Citadel (58') with a degree in Civil Engineering. As an Air Force Officer, Ken and Frances served our nation at Misawa AFB, Japan. Upon his return to civilian life in his beloved Charleston, Ken worked briefly for Ruscon Construction, then worked with pride until retirement at the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC). Ken is universally remembered as the consummate professional, and dignified southern gentleman.
Ken was a lifelong member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, where he raised his children in the Christian faith. Ken was an avid Clemson fan, where both of his children and three of his grandchildren attended and graduated. Ken will always be a role model for family and friends. Ken was a lifelong conservative, a believer in the American dream, and led a life of selfless service for the benefit of his family, his friends, and his country.
