Kenneth E. Knight

April 23, 1930 — June 28, 2010

Kenneth E. Knight, Sr., of North Charleston, entered into eternal rest on the morning of June 28, 2010 at Hospice of Charleston.  He was the husband of Bess Watson Knight for 57 years.  The relatives and friends of Mr. & Mrs. Knight and their family are invited to attend his funeral service at Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church, Thursday, July 1, 2010, at eleven o'clock.  Interment will be at Boone Hill Cemetery, Summerville, SC following the service.  Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, Wednesday, June 30, 2010 between five and seven thirty o'clock; and they will also receive visitors at ten o'clock the morning of the service at Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.  


Mr. Knight was born on April 23, 1930 in Charleston, SC, the son of James Clifton Knight and Annie Sineath Knight.  He was a member of The Hanahan Exchange Club, The Charleston Elks Lodge, past president of the Charleston Printers Association and a former member of the North Charleston Jaycees.  He was a member of the Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church.


He is survived by his wife, Bess Knight of North Charleston, SC; son, Kenneth E. Knight, Jr. and his wife Helen of Hanahan, SC, daughter, Kathy Knight Rigsby and her husband, Ken of Charleston, SC; sister, Zet Rodgers of Hanahan, SC; four grandchildren:  Kimberly Knight Gallagher and her husband Ed of Gaffney, SC, Kevin Knight, Alex Rigsby and Noah Rigsby of Charleston, SC; one great-grandchild, Erin Gallagher of Gaffney, SC.  He was preceded in death by two brothers; Coleman Knight and J.C. Knight, and two sisters; Mary Knight Johnson and Joyce Knight Woods.


Mr. Knight spent his career in the printing industry, which he began part time as a student at The College of Charleston.  He eventually bought the printing operation of Mr. Edgar Davis.  Over the years, he was owner of Port City Printers and helped found The North Charleston Banner newspaper in 1960.  Later on, he became general manager of Tri-State Printing from where he retired after 27 years. 


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church, 5931 Murray Avenue, Hanahan, SC 29410 and/or Hospice of Charleston Foundation, 676 Wando Park Boulevard, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
