Kenneth Richard Diaz, Sr., 64, of Johns Island, South Carolina, husband of Carmen Lightcap Diaz entered into eternal rest Tuesday, November 27, 2012. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012 in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at 10:00 a.m. Rite of Committal, St. Lawrence Cemetery . The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Friday between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.
Kenneth was born December 13, 1947 in Coral Gables, Florida, son of Mariano Francisco Cristino Diaz and Luisa Trueba Diaz. He was a graduate of the Citadel, Class of 1969. Ken was a three-year letterman in football, playing predominantly as defensive end. In 1968, his senior season, he achieved All-Southern Conference, All-State and honorable mention All-American citations. He was also elected into the Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003. He was a Civil Engineer and worked in sales for Sunbelt Rentals, Inc. Ken was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
He is survived by his wife of Johns Island, SC; son, Kenneth R. Diaz, Jr. of Alexandria, VA; daughter, Brooke Diaz Wood (Jacob) of Charleston, SC; two grandchildren: Emory Wood, Carmen Wood; sister, Lynn Diaz Bob (Terry) and many nieces and nephews.
