Kenneth Gerard Bauer, 49, of Isle Of Palms, South Carolina, husband of Dee Ann Bauer passed away on November 11th. A Celebration of Ken's Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Breach Inlet, with parking at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 3222 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of Sunrise Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Ken was born November 18, 1963 in Summit, New Jersey, son of Robert and Dorothy Bauer. A graduate of The Thunderbird School of International Management, his extensive international travels and artistic passion inspired him to design and create a unique global furniture business, Bauer International Inc.
Founded in 1992, Bauer International became an internationally recognized furniture manufacturer. The company was designated as and has been the official furniture and fixture provider for the PGA of America since 2003. Bauer International was named the Small Business of the Year in 2000 by the Charleston Regional Business Journal as well as a member of The Roaring 20s list of companies for 5 years in a row. Ken took deep pride in being the purveyor for the 2012 PGA Championship held at Kiawah Island.
Ken was deeply committed to philanthropy and active in the Charleston community. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the SC Aquarium, helped found the Maritime Heritage Foundation, was instrumental in the effort behind the Spirit of South Carolina, and a member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church. Ken was a member of The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and Explorers Club. He loved surfing, boating, sailing, and possessed a passion for travel and adventure. He was very involved with the Family Circle Cup from the beginning, a dedicated member and passionate supporter of the Eastern Surfing Association and Surfers Healing. He was also a persistent charity golf tournament organizer. He was a founding member of the Charleston to Bermuda race and competed many times. With his love of the water, Ken taught countless kids how to surf and enjoy boating.
A strongly devoted husband and father, he loved his family above all else in his wonderful life. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Dee Ann Bauer; his children, Kai Bauer, Stiles Lewis Bauer, and Luba Marie Bauer; his parents, Robert and Dorothy Bauer of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and his nephew, Alex Bauer of Lebanon, NJ. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kurt.
