Captain Kelly Marie Hasselman, USA, 29, of El Paso, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 19, 2014. Her Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 5, 2014, in the Summerall Chapel, The Citadel, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, South Carolina at 1:00 p.m. Entombment Service will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2014, The Citadel Columbarium, at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Kelly was born August 9, 1984, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, daughter of Raymond L. Hasselman and Carol May Hasselman of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was a graduate of Bishop Kelley High School, Class of 2003. She was a graduate of The Citadel, Class 2007, and was commissioned into the United States Army, Intelligence Branch following graduation. Kelly was a veteran of two tours of duty in Afghanistan. She also served a tour in South Korea. During her last tour in Afghanistan, Kelly was Company Commander of a Female Engagement Team. Kelly received a Bronze Star.
Kelly is survived by her brother, Kevin Hasselman and wife, Lillian, of Grosse Pointe, Michigan and sister, Karen Hasselman of Atlanta, Georgia; aunt, Barbara Hasselman of Mount Vernon, New York; uncle, Kenneth May and wife, Katherine, of Middletown, Connecticut; cousin, Jennifer May of Whitman, Massachusetts; and two nieces, Taryn Hasselman and Kylie Hasselman of Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Kelly was predeceased by her grandparents, Louis and Margaret Hasselman and Cecil and Betty May.
