Keith Alvin Wright

In Loving Memory of Our Hero, Keith Alvin Wright

It is with heavy hearts and boundless love that we remember and honor the life of Keith Wright, a man who embodied kindness, thoughtfulness, and devotion in its purest form. A man whose love was steady, hands always open to help, and laughter never far behind.

Born in the peaceful mountain town of Cashiers, North Carolina, to the late Genevieve Hawkins & Joe Lawrence Wright, he carried the strength of the hills and the gentleness of their streams within him. From a young age, he was a mischievous spirit, known for pulling pranks and racing cars through winding country roads- a free soul with a wild streak, and a heart already tuned to love and loyalty.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as Master Chief Mess Specialist, a chapter of his life that shaped him into a man of quiet courage and unwavering dedication. His journey didn’t stop there- He served as Head of the Navy Evaluation Team, a position carrying the honorary rank equivalent to an Admiral, in charge of honoring ships with the yearly “NEY Award” in memory of Captain Edward F. Ney, a prestigious award given to the best Navy galleys in the country. After retiring from the Navy, he transitioned to serving those still in uniform, selling supplies to naval ships. One of his many proud accomplishments was introducing Main Squeeze juice to the Navy fleet- just one of ways he found joy in staying connected with the military. He was a member of the Fraternal order of Freemasons, Scotch Rite, & Shriner.

Above all, he was a man of deep devotion. He loved his late wife, Charlotte, with every fiber of his being. She was his compass, his confidante, and the most beautiful sight in the world- second only, perhaps, to the vast American landscapes he adored traveling along with her & their close friends (Nancy, Carson, Renee, & Mike). His love for her did not dim with her passing; it endured, shining brightly through the stories he told, the photographs he kept close, and the gentle way he spoke her name. As he said himself, many times & in many ways: “There was no person alive as sweet and loving as Mrs. Charlotte S. Wright”. They truly shared that “Notebook kind of love story”.

To his children and grandchildren, he was a rock. His love was constant, his pride immeasurable. He showed up-always. Whether with a warm hug, a perfectly timed one-liner, a perfectly cooked prime rib, or a simple reminder that you were deeply loved and seen.

To know him was to be wrapped in safety, laughter, and unconditional love.

We miss him more than words can hold. But we find comfort in knowing that he’s now reunited with Charlotte, likely pulling lighthearted pranks on the angels and exploring Heaven with that same sense of wonder he had for Earth.

Thank you, Popie, for showing us what it means to live with love, serve with pride, and leave behind a legacy of gentleness and joy. We’ll carry your stories, your lessons, and your laughter with us forever.

Keith was proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Charlotte Ann Snelson Wright, both of his parents (Joe & Genevieve), 4 brothers (Joe, Thomas Marion, Dan, & Charlie), & son-in-law (Steve). Survived by children, Keith “Andy” Andrew Wright (Angie) and Celia “Sissy” Ann DuPriest, both of Mount Pleasant, SC; his grandchildren, Brittany Morgan Whittemore (Stefany), Peyton Craig DuPriest (Zoë), Dustin Schell, & Rachael Swiantek (Jason); great-grandchildren, Daphne DuPriest; Reagan, Ryleigh, Jaxon Swiantek; Kyleigh, & Ethan Schell; nieces & nephew, Anna Hurt, Linda Wright, & Mike Wright).
