Kathryn Allshouse Norton

Kathryn Allshouse Norton, 75, of Charleston, SC passed away peacefully on September 2nd, 2018. A Memorial Service will be held on October 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 67 Anson Street, Charleston, SC 29401 followed by a Celebration of Life Service at the College of Charleston's Albert Simons Center for the Arts, 54 St. Philip Street, Charleston, SC 29401 at 1:00 PM. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Kathryn worked at the College of Charleston for almost 30 years and served as the Director of Operations at the College's School of the Arts. In her role she worked with Spoleto Festival USA, the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts & Humanities and other regional and national organizations. She also served on multiple campus committees to help coordinate commencement and other large-scale events. Kathryn's tireless dedication and service to the College was driven by her love of the students, faculty, staff, artists and volunteers.

Kathryn was actively involved with St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Besides being an integral part of their Saturday evening Eucharists, she coordinated lectors and lay Eucharistic ministers for their Sunday services. In her free time, she entertained friends, baked bread and read books, usually with her cat on her lap.

Prior to settling in Charleston, Kathryn had been a Navy wife and raised her family in the States, Asia and Pacific. She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Kelly and Paul Watts of Melbourne, Australia and Suzanne and Kevin Ewen of Cincinnati, Ohio; by her two grandchildren, Jessica and Nick Watts; and by her sisters, Marie Miller of Lansing, Michigan and Martha Jo Wright of Mesa, Arizona and their families.

The financial award is given annually to a School of the Arts student who demonstrates excellent service to others.
