Kathryn Raun Marxen passed away on January the 18th, 2025, at the age of 94. She was born on September the 28th, 1930, to Reverend James and Nellie (Nee Scalipino) in Fremont, Nebraska. KD grew up in San Francisco, California, and Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In 1951 she married Peter Roab Marxen.
KD and Peter experienced a life of adventurous memories. They welcomed three children into their lives and resided in multiple places including Montana, Colorado, Libya, England, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand.
She was known for her joy, love of all aspects of God’s creation, hospitality, warm embrace of life, and expressing multiple areas of creativity which included the culinary arts, sailing, fishing, and table games.
Psalm 16:6 states “the lines have fallen from me in pleasant places; indeed I have a beautiful inheritance.” Wherever KD lived (on four continents), she rejoiced in the “pleasant places” where the Lord placed her.
She received a “beautiful inheritance” from her parents. And she diligently sought to extend that legacy to her three children, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. KD was a faithful woman and ran the race of life with diligence, kindness, and joy. She honored her Savior by caring for others and having a life that was marked by servanthood and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband, Peter Marxen, her brothers James and John, her sister Elizabeth, her son-in-law, Edwin Deering, and her daughter-in-law, Laura Marxen. She is survived by her daughters, Mindy Deering (Dallas, TX) and Sara Brown (Charleston, SC) and son, Dana Marxen (Dallas, TX), six grandchildren (Jason Deering, Nick Deering, Nicole Marxen, Zach Brown, and AnnaKathryn Keiper), eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family is indebted to the community and staff at Somerby Retirement Home and their many kindnesses.
A service of remembrance will be held at East Cooper Baptist Church on Thursday, February the 27th at 10 o'clock (361 Egypt Rd, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464).
A memorial message may be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
