Kathryn Cheatham Duncan

Kathryn Cheatham Duncan, age 78, of Daniel Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025. She was the beloved wife of Douglas Duncan and a remarkable wife, mother and grandmother, whose life was filled with love for her family.

Kathryn was born on March 12, 1947 in Whitmire, SC. She moved to Abbeville, SC when she was two and grew up there and attended Abbeville Highschool where she played basketball and was a majorette. After graduating from high school in 1965, she attended Erskine College. She then went on to attend The School of Pharmacy at the Medical University of South Carolina. She was the Secretary Treasury of her pharmacy class for three years. She graduated from pharmacy school in 1972 and then went on and practiced as a licensed pharmacist.

Kathryn’s family was her passion. It was exemplified by her unwavering support of her children and grandchildren. Kathryn, otherwise known as “YaYa”, loved attending sporting events, plays and recitals to cheer on both her kids and grandchildren over the years. Summer vacation trips to the beach with family and friends were always a tradition. Kathryn cherished holidays with her family and never forgot a birthday or special occasion. A devoted animal lover, Kathryn had a particular fondness for her Boykin Spaniels, reflecting her gentle spirit and love for all creatures.

Her faith was also an integral part of her life, as she remained actively involved in Sunday School, circle classes and she especially enjoyed visiting with the sick and homebound previously in Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill, NC, and locally, at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church.

Kathryn is survived by her husband, Douglas Duncan, her children Kem Duncan Baker (Cody) of Mt. Pleasant and Chris Duncan (Courtney) of Matthews, NC. She cherished her grandchildren, Reese Baker, Regan Baker, Knox Duncan, and Lively Duncan, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her brother, Conrad Cheatham (Barbara) of St. Louis. Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents, Knox Cheatham and Simmie Shuler Cheatham.
