Kathryn Barbara Shupert Byrd, 83, of Johns Island, South Carolina, wife of Jerry E. Byrd, Sr. entered into eternal rest Tuesday, June 25, 2013. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013 in the Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Hwy. at 1:00 pm. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway.
Barbara was born April 13, 1930 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Daniel Millard Shupert and Laura Hampton Shupert. She was a retired Registered Nurse and worked at St. Francis, Roper and the Charleston County Hospitals. She was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church and a former member of Pinecrest Baptist Church. Barbara was also a member of the Alumni Association of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, she was a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House and also with the Adult Literacy Program. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and horticulture. Barbara made quilts for the Victory House in Walterboro and other organizations.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years: Jerry E. Byrd, Sr. of Johns Island; five children: Linda B. Jarriel of Johns Island, Jerry E.(Eddie) Byrd, Jr. of North Charleston, Daniel W. Byrd (Alice Zealy Byrd) of St. George, SC, David W. Byrd (Darlene Usry Byrd) of West Ashley, and Donna B. Perry of West Ashley; nine grandchildren: Lawra Cannon Boyce (Marion) of West Columbia, SC, Jonathan E. Byrd of Richmond Hill, GA, Jennifer M. Byrd of Mt. Pleasant, Daniel W. (Billy) Byrd of Colorado, Ashley B. Still (Brantley) of St. George, SC, Katie L. Byrd of Johns Island, Patti L. Byrd of Mt. Pleasant, Michael R. Perry and Christopher T. Perry both of Summerville; and four great grandchildren, Kate Boyce, Emmalyn Boyce, Haley Martin and Payton Byrd. Barbara was predeceased by a sister, Marion Edwards.
