Kathleen Bailey White, 95, of North Charleston, SC, died Monday, April 10, 2017. Her funeral service will be held Friday, April 14, 2017 in the Magnolia Cemetery, (Greenhill section), 70 Cunnington Avenue at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., North Area Chapel, 2119 Dorchester Road.
Kathleen was born May 11, 1921 in Charleston, SC, she was one of five children of the late Benjamin Bailey and the late Mattie Jeffcoat Bailey. She spent part of her early childhood in the Charleston Orphan House. Family was first and foremost important to Kathleen but she, along with two friends, also operated a catering service; she was famous for her baking especially her New Year wafers, Chinese chews, tarts and cheese biscuits. She had also worked as a dietician for MUSC.
She is survived by three children: Kathleen Gaillard McCaskill and her husband Richard McCaskill of North Charleston, SC; son, Bruce Bailey Gaillard of James Island, SC; and Cynthia White Rauton and her husband Mel Rauton, Jr. of Mount Pleasant, SC; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas White and her son, Luther B. Gaillard.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
