Kathleen Brewer Brown, 75, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Kendall Jared “Jerry” Brown, entered into eternal rest Saturday, August 15, 2026. Her Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Born on April 2, 1951, in Charleston, South Carolina, Kathleen was the third of four children of the late Orville William “Bill” Brewer and Irene Watson Brewer. She was a lifelong Charleston resident who grew up in Avondale and attended Blessed Sacrament School and Bishop England High School (Class of 1969). Kathleen worked for over 30 years at the Commissioners of Public Works (Charleston Water), spending the majority of her career as a dispatcher, where she met and married her loving husband, Jerry. Following her retirement, she felt a call to service and explored volunteer opportunities at several local organizations including the Charleston Animal Society and Hospice of Charleston, before ultimately filling her days with the care of her two grandchildren, Rachel and Evan. She was so thrilled to learn on Christmas Day in 2007 that she would become a grandmother that she somehow managed to line up a crib and a high chair for her house before dinner was even finished. She loved them so very much.
Kathleen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was also a devoted daughter, who willingly and lovingly shared live-in care responsibilities with her sister Patsy, for their mother after a fall. When it became necessary to move their mother to a residential care facility, both Kathleen and Patsy continued to visit every single day through her long battle with Alzheimer's. Her devotion never wavered. She will be remembered with love by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind and will be carried forward in all that they do.
In addition to her husband, Kathleen is survived by her daughter, Sarah H. Swain and her husband Ben, of Charleston; her two brothers: Orville W. “Bill” Brewer, Jr. and his wife, Jan, of Goose Creek; and Dr. Gregory A. “Greg” Brewer and his wife, Dr. Cynthia “Cindy” Brewer of Maryland; and her two beloved grandchildren, Rachel Swain and Evan Swain.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Bill and Irene Brewer, and her cherished sister, Patsy Warren.
The family wishes to extend its incredible appreciation for the love and devotion shown to Kathleen by her faithful friends Patsy Simonin, Paula Belfiore, Mittie Asbury, and Diana Shirley, who shared the joys and banalities of life and celebrated milestones big and small with her through decades of fierce friendship, and who continued to show up for her through the very end of her life. The family also wishes to extend its appreciation to the staff of The Palmettos of Charleston and Hospice of Charleston, who supported her with dignity and care during the end of her short journey with dementia.
Memorials may be made to The Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Rd, North Charleston, SC 29406; or Hospice of Charleston, 4975 LaCross Rd, Suite 200, North Charleston, SC, 29406.
Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
