Katherine S. Rigney, 92, widow of Ernest G. Rigney, Sr. died Monday, June 11, 2012 at Roper Hospital, Charleston.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15, 2012 at Holmes Avenue Baptist Church, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTH AREA CHAPEL Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Born January 11, 1920 in Chatham, Virginia, Mrs. Rigney was one of nine children of Samuel Ferguson Shelton and Anne Yates Shelton. She was a member of Holmes Avenue Baptist Church for over 60 years. She resided in North Charleston for 72 years. During that time she was a member of several local garden clubs as well as an active participant in a variety of civic and senior-citizen organizations. She co-managed a successful catering business for 15 years. A talented painter, her works delighted many.

She is survived by her son: Ernest G. Rigney, Jr. and two brothers: Stuart Shelton of Chatham, Virginia and Francis Shelton of Powhatan, Virginia.
