Kathy graduated from Mount Notre Dame High School in Cincinnati and attended the University of Cincinnati before moving to South Carolina in 1973. Kathy contributed to the Charleston community through her volunteer work, her love of animals, and her stewardship of the "Porgy House" on Folly Beach, SC. As the first volunteer coordinator for the fledgling South Carolina Aquarium, she was instrumental in coordinating enthusiastic volunteers prior to the groundbreaking of the South Carolina Aquarium. In addition, Kathy also served on the Board of Pet Helpers on James Island, where she championed the Trap Neuter Return Program (TNR). Kathy's ultimate gift to the community was her restoration of the historic Porgy House and sharing the story of Porgy and Bess though her tours to the public. She was a local expert on Dorothy and Dubose Heyward, the authors of Porgy and Bess and enjoyed sharing her passion for the Operetta, written by George and Ira Gershwin and the Heywards. She restored the Porgy and Bess house and opened it for tours to the public in 2011.
