Katharine Moore McMurray Wilcox, wife of Arthur Manigault Wilcox, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 10, 2013.
Her Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at St. Philip's Church. Burial will be in the churchyard. The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street, Tuesday, November 12, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
She was born October 1, 1922, at Fort Benning, GA, the daughter of the late Col. Clarence McCain McMurray and Priscilla Moore McMurray. She was a graduate of Balboa High School in the Panama Canal Zone where she met her husband of 69 years. She earned a degree in political science from George Washington University. Mrs. Wilcox was a past president of the Women of St. Philip's Church and of the Board of Control of the Confederate Home. She was a member of the Garden Club of Charleston, the Junior League of Charleston, and a longstanding member of the Thursday Club.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Margaret W. Garrett (Gordon) and Dr. Priscilla W. Holtzclaw (James), both of Charleston; two sons, Arthur M. Wilcox Jr. (Dana) of Coronado, CA, and Robert M. Wilcox (Lisa) of Columbia; eleven grandchildren, Elizabeth G. Ryan (Jason), Caroline G. Brouwer (Chad), Gordon Hughes Garrett, Katharine W. Strahan (Andrew), James R. Wilcox (Brooke), Robert Holtzclaw (Tia), Margaret H. Griggs (Kevin), Dr. Arthur Holtzclaw (Deb), Edward P. Wilcox, Robert M. Wilcox Jr. and Alexander L. Wilcox; six great-grandchildren, Charlotte Griggs, Katie Griggs, John Griggs, Iris Ryan, Louise Ryan, and Zoe Holtzclaw; and one brother, the Rev. Stewart M. McMurray of Lewisburg, W.Va. She was preceded in death by her son, John Walter Wilcox.
