Kate Fogleman Wylly Stanton, wife of David Martin Stanton, died on Thursday, March 7th, 2024. She was a native of Alabama, born in Birmingham, April 5th, 1934, the daughter of the late James Woods and Virginia Martin Fogleman, one of eleven children. She was previously married to Lachlan Ralston Wylly III, who preceded her in death. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 11, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A worship service and celebration of the life of Kate will be at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment in the Second Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Kate received her formal education at Peace College in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the College of Charleston. She was a certified Professional Legal Secretary. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church serving as a Chairman of Deacons, Elder, Sunday School teacher, youth leader, Moderator of Presbyterian Women, Women’s Circle leader, and Bible Study leader.
She was active in numerous community interests and activities, including the Board of South Carolina Make-A-Wish foundation, PTA president, Civic Club president, La Sertoma president, and Historic Charleston Foundation docent. She was a Trustee for the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina, a member of the Fort Sullivan chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, and the Benjamin Jeankins Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Kate placed high value on friendship and family. As a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she discharged every duty with rare fidelity which characterized her whole life.
Surviving are her husband, David Martin Stanton, her four sons, Richard Habersham Wylly (Carolyn) of Charleston, James Ralston Wylly (Kathleen) of Middletown, Rhode Island, Robert Patterson Wylly (Jeanine) of Fleming Island, Florida, and Wesley Lachlan Wylly (Marion) of Dothan, Alabama; six granddaughters, Catherine Elizabeth Leeke (Jonathon), Sarah Ashley Henderson (Daniel), Lauren Michelle Nass (Dylan), Amanda Wylly, Pamela Wylly, Katelyn Jeanine Newsome (Zach) and three grandsons, Ralston Henry Wylly, Stryker Johnston Wylly, and Rider Lachlan Wylly; five great-granddaughters, and eight great-grandsons.
