Karie "Kay" Branton Kennerly, 84, of Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, April 29, 2026. A Graveside Service will be held Monday, May 4, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Ravenel, 5987 Hwy 165 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 3, 2026 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
Born on April 18, 1942, Kay was the beloved daughter of George Branton and Karie "Kate" Sires Branton. She graduated from St. Paul’s High School in 1960 and went on to build a long and respected career with the Department of Motor Vehicles. Kay eventually retired as a District Supervisor, a role in which she was known for her leadership, diligence, and commitment. She began her career with the DMV in 1960 and remained devoted to her work until retirement.
In her later years, Kay embraced her love of creativity by founding “Kay’s Keepsakes,” a craft endeavor that reflected her talent and passion. She was an active member of several craft guilds and found great joy in creating and sharing her work with others.
Kay's pride was her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Knowlton Dwight Kennerly. She is survived by her daughter, Karie Ann Crowther; her husband Billy; her son, Michael D. Kennerly; his fiancee Nikki Kansas; and her two cherished grandchildren, William Henry Crowther and James Knowlton Crowther.
Kay will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored and the many lives she touched.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Hospice of Charleston 1885 Rifle Range Road Suite 46, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 and Rockville Presbyterian Church, 2479 Sea Island Yacht Club Rd, Wadmalaw Island, SC 29487.
