Karen was born December 1, 1943 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Charles Wesley Moonly and the late Jane Buchanan Moonly. She graduated from the University of Maryland where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was a retired kindergarten teacher with Whitesides Elementary School and was an active member of St. Andrews Church Mount Pleasant. Karen was a co-leader of the Good News Life Group and a member of the Salty Sisters Prayer Group and Empty Nesters Supper Club as well as a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa retired teachers organization. She delighted in sharing her home with friends and was a gracious hostess, always making guests feel comfortable in her home. Her greatest joy was sharing time with her four grandchildren, of whom she was extremely proud. She also cherished time gardening and boating on Shem Creek and surrounding waterways.
Karen loved the Lord and touched many lives as she shared that love. She was quick to respond when anyone was in need of a friend to pray with or just to come alongside. A quote from Karen that she left in a folder describing her funeral wishes: "My prayer for all: Accept Christ as Lord of your daily life. Do it daily. Ask for help from the Holy Spirit, and I'll see you in Heaven." She will be missed terribly by her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Bryant Gill of Mt. Pleasant, SC; son, Colby Edward Bryant of Georgetown, SC; and grandchildren, Bryant Gill, Ansley Gill, Benjamin Bryant and Victoria Bryant.
