Karen Hildreth Chassey Aytes, 66 of Charleston, SC, lost her battle to cancer on Friday, September 13, 2024. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024 in Grace Church Cathedral, 98 Wentworth Street, at 2 pm. 

Karen was born on March 17, 1958 to Rev. Cannon George Chassey and Mary Chassey in Spartanburg, SC. Following graduation from nursing school at MUSC, she pursued her degree as an OB Nurse for over 30 years before advancing to clinical documentation. In 1976, Karen met Josiah William Aytes, Sr. at a graduation party in his home. Karen and Joe married in 1980, and had four children: Jessica Hucks, Aimee Ayers, Josiah "Josh" William Aytes, Jr., and Sarah Harriford. Karen loved horses and her relationship to Christ. She LOVED spending time with family!!!

Karen was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Richard Chassey. 

Karen is survived by her husband, Joe; her children: Jessica (Adam), Aimee (Richard), Josh (AnnMarie), and Sarah (Ken); and her sister, Jean Bender (Charles).
