June Kirkley Lucas Fidler, 86, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Sunday, April 24, 2016. The Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 29, 2016 in J. Henry Stuhr Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Saint James Churchyard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in Stuhr's Downtown Chapel.
June was born May 15, 1929 in Bennettsville, SC, the daughter of the late Claude S. Lucas and Mae Kirkley Lucas. She attended Mitchell School in Charleston and was one of many that played on Mitchell playground downtown. Beautiful June was former Miss Charleston High School of 1946. She was an employee at Bankers Trust, and retired as a telecommunications specialist for the Medical University of South Carolina. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Her favorite things were her family, the beach, shagging and watermelon. Her gentle, sweet, quiet soul will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda C. F. Rains (Darrell) of Indianapolis, IN; son, Stephen Craig Fidler of Charleston, SC; sister, Margaret L. Alley McGregor of Charleston, SC; brother, Frank E. Lucas, FAIA (Edith) of Charleston, SC; five grandchildren: Dean A. Rains, AIA (Susan), Heather Rains Vaughn (Ryan), Ashley Rains Adams (Barry), Lauren Fidler, and Kayla Fidler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Sarah L. Jones and brother, Claude Bowen Lucas.
The family is deeply grateful to the dedicated staff of Beacon Hospice of Charleston, and the Hospice Center of Charleston for their tremendous care of our beloved June.
