Julius DeWitt Rogers

December 17, 1928 — March 13, 2011

Entered into eternal rest on the morning of March 13, 2011, Julius DeWitt Rogers ("J.D., "Red","Sonny"), husband of Catherine Padgett Rogers.  Residence, Charleston, South Carolina.  The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Rogers are invited to attend the funeral services of the former Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at 2 pm, at Pinecrest Baptist Church.  Committal Services will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends this Tuesday from 5 until 7 pm at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL. 


J.D. was born in Fairfax, South Carolina on December 17, 1928, a son of the late Stephen and Sara Cone Rogers.  He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard after 47 years of service, volunteered at St. Francis Hospital and Citadel Football Games for several years, member of the Elks Lodge #242, Charleston Rifle Club, a Mason, and was a former President of FMA with the Charleston Naval Shipyard. J.D. was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church and served as a Deacon, Treasurer and member of numerous committees for many years.


Surviving are his wife Cat of Charleston; daughter-in-law, Lou Rogers of Charleston; son-in-law, David E. Powell of St. Mary's, GA; three grandchildren, Sara Jayne Rogers, Esq., Joshua David Powell, and Perry Stephen Powell; sister, Margie Conners of Savannah, GA, brothers, George Rogers of Nashville, TN, Robert Rogers of Orlando, FL, and Joe Rogers of Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.  Mr. Rogers is preceded in death by a son Jay D. Rogers, Jr., a daughter, Renee R. Powell; two brothers, Stephen Rogers and Martin Rogers; and a sister, Maryanne Johnson. 


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pinecrest Baptist Church, 1285 Ashley Hall Road, Charleston, SC  29407, Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC  29605-4277 and/or The Citadel Foundation, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC  29409-6230.
