Entered into eternal rest on the morning of August 31, 2010, Julian Harvey Tanner, Sr., husband of Donna Meier Tanner. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Harvey Tanner, Sr. are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Friday, September 3, 2010 at 2:00 pm in Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Thursday between 5-7 pm.
Mr. Tanner was born October 31, 1932 in Charleston, SC, the son of Willard A. Tanner and Julia Rice Tanner. He was a graduate of Rivers High School and attended The Citadel and served with the United States Army during Korea. He was a member of Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir, a Charter Member of the American Legion Post #147, James Island, Charleston Elks Lodge #242 for over 30 years, First Citizens Senior Center on James Island. Mr. Tanner was an Electrical Supervisor with the Charleston Naval Shipyard, Shop #55 for 35 years. He was also a volunteer fireman and with the Rescue Squad of the Folly Beach Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; four sons: Julian "Jody" H. Tanner, Jr. of New York, Mark A. Tanner (Beth) of Summerville, SC, John J. O'Neale (Gayle) of Columbia, SC, and G. Michael O'Neale (Sandy) of Charleston, SC; four daughters: Cynthia T. Dix (Danny) of Charleston, SC, Karen T. Brown (Louie) of Greenwood, SC, Kathleen T. Christiansen (John) of Tampa, FL. and Mary E. Cooper (Jack) of Charleston, SC; one brother: Charles Edward Tanner (Lillian) of Summerville, SC; 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1605 Harborview Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
