Julian Simmons Knight

August 4, 1915 — September 5, 2010

Mr. Julian Simmons Knight, 95, of Charleston SC entered into eternal rest on the morning of September 6, 2010, widower of Mildred Scarborough Knight.  Mr. Knight was born August 4, 1915 in Knightsville, SC, the son of Oliver James Knight and Ella Cantley Knight.


Mr. Knight was in hotel and motel management, having graduated from the Holiday Inn University with a degree in motel and food management.  He retired from Holiday Inn after 34 years service.  He was a former member of the Mason's Orange Lodge #14 and the West Ashley Sertoma Club.  He was a faithful member of Northbridge Baptist Church since returning to the Charleston area in 1987.  He was an ordained Deacon and in September 2000 was given the honorary title of Deacon Emeritus for his faithful service to his Lord and church.  He held several other church positions including President of the Men's Brotherhood for ten years working on several outreach projects including refurbishing a room at the Baptist-owned Bonnie Doones Plantation near Walterboro.  He also served on the visitation programs and the Tuesday am Bible study. 


Surviving are a son Robert Knight of Acworth, GA and two grandsons, Jason Knight of Atlanta and Jeremy Knight of Memphis, TN, and a sister Elizabeth Knight Lipman, as well as several nieces in the Charleston and Knightsville area.


Special thanks are extended to the management and staff of Dayspring Assisted Living in Hollywood, SC for their special care of Mr. Knight for the past four years and to Odyssey Hospice for their services during his final days.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northbridge Baptist Church, 1160 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., Charleston, SC  29407.


The relatives and friends of Mr. Knight are invited to attend the funeral services at Northbridge Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 3:00 pm.  Interment to follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.  Visitation at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL this Tuesday evening from six until seven-thirty pm.
