Julian "Jay" Wayne Unger, 50, husband of Elizabeth "Betsy" Pringle Unger, died suddenly of heart complications on Saturday, March 23, 2024 in Mount Pleasant, SC. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2024 in St. Michael’s Church, 71 Broad Street at 11:00 a.m. A reception will be held immediately after at Hibernian Hall. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Jay is the son of Henry "Bubba" Wayne Unger and Ellen Harriette Eubank Unger. He was a 1992 graduate of Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA and received his Bachelor of Arts in 1996 from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. Jay spent his childhood in Walterboro and Edisto Island and has lived in the Charleston area for the last 25 years. He became a full-time real estate agent in 1996 and was well-respected in his field. Jay was a Sales Agent at The Cassina Group with business partner Phil Sykes.
Jay loved nothing more than being with his family and taking care of people he loved and everyone in his life. He enjoyed traveling, boating, and exercising. Jay was a member of St. Michael’s Church, the Carolina Yacht Club, the Hobcaw Yacht Club, the Country Club of Charleston, and the Hibernian Society.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Betsy; son, Henry James Unger; daughter, Mayes Elizabeth Jefferies Unger; brother, Henry Manning Unger (Rebekah Hughes Unger); three nephews; and a niece.
