Julia Mae Jackson Lyon, 83, wife of the late Walter J. Lyon of Awendaw, SC passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. The relatives and friends of Julia Mae Lyon are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Friday, December 9, 2011 in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery in Awendaw. The family will receive friends at the Mount Pleasant Chapel from 12:30 p.m. until time of the service.
Mrs. Lyon was born March 29, 1928 in Awendaw, South Carolina, daughter of the late James Walter Jackson and Estelle Lynes Jackson. She was a member of Ocean Grove United Methodist Church of Awendaw and was a homemaker. Family was the center of her life, and for years she was known to them as "Grandma," until the arrival of Avarie, her great-granddaughter. From that moment on, she was "Ju Ju." She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Jonathan Lyon and his wife, Debra of Awendaw; grandchildren, Wade and Stephanie Lyon, Jennifer and Zach Cunningham, Jamie and Lynn Gardner, Avarie, Morgan, Jude and Courtney; daughter, Karen Jo Strickland of Texas; sons, Matthew Lyon and his wife, Lynn of West Virginia, and Wally Lyon of Charleston; many other grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Lillian J. Wilson of Awendaw, Margaret J. Inhabinette of Charleston, Shirley J. Ackerman of Awendaw; and many nieces and nephews.
