Julia Ellen Herrin Frierson passed away on January, 25, 2025 after an illness. She is survived by her husband Lawrence Frierson. They were married for more than 35 years. She is also survived by her children Neil Hopwood and Angelia Hopwood-Lewis, as well as four grandchildren: Emma Grace Lewis, Thomas Hopwood, Madison Hopwood and Jaxson Hopwood. Julia is also survived by her sister Carol, and brothers Randy, George and Joe. She was preceded in death by her baby brother Rex.
Julia was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to parents Martha Randolph and Leo Benson Herrin.
She was a lifelong voracious reader, a student of history, a talented gardener, fiercely intelligent, charming and resoundingly funny, who often was the glue that held it all together. A bookstore manager and later a real estate agent, having a career was secondary to her because she spent most of her life as a proud homemaker, mother and great cook. Likewise, she was a staunch advocate for her children during their formative years, even as the family lived the military life moving around the country. She finally settled in Fredericksburg Va., where she began a new chapter by marrying Lawrence. She later retired with Lawrence to Mt. Pleasant, SC, where they enjoyed mild ocean breezes, the coastal lifestyle, and no long commute.
Her memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 in Mt.Pleasant Memorial Gardens at 1308 Mathis Ferry Road at 1:00 pm.
Psalm 116:15 "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of one of his saints."
