Jules Dickson Mappus

October 11, 1994 — February 27, 2015

The spirit of Jules Dickson Mappus, Jr., fondly called "Jules," left this earth on February 27, 2015. The vigil held by the family at James Island County Park on Saturday, March 14, was well attended. The family will have a private service.

Born on October 11, 1994, in Charleston, Jules was the son of Dick and Butler Mappus. He attended Academic Magnet High School, was a graduate of James Island Charter High School and attended the University of South Carolina. Jules enjoyed playing golf, ultimate frisbee and card games with his friends. He will be remembered as a deep thinker, voracious reader, and a spiritual being who loved art, music and writing. He could often be found intently reading a book while lying in the field at the James Island County Park or in a peaceful outdoor setting. Jules had a passion for all of the energies of the universe. He was known for his acts of kindness and was especially concerned about the homeless, often distributing food to those in Marion Square. Jules indeed loved people in all walks of life; and all of his family and friends will remember him for his kind, generous, fun-loving nature.

Jules is survived by his parents, his loving sister Butler; his maternal grandmother Elizabeth "Betty" Roberson of Georgetown; his paternal grandmother Gladys D. Mappus of Charleston; his aunt Kimberly "Kim" Roberson of Columbia and her daughter "Betsy" Pietrusza (Travis) of Atlanta; his uncle Retired Lt. Col. Ernest Norwood Roberson, Jr. (Vickie) and cousins Charlie and Jacob of Summerville, SC; his cousins Patrick Roberson (Amanda) of Midland, TX and Kristina Roberson of New Orleans, LA; his aunt Lynne Mappus, PhD (Ephraim Ulmer) of Columbia; his uncle Stephen Mappus (Jackie) and cousins Elliott and Elizabeth of Charleston.

He was predeceased by his grandfathers: Ernest Norwood Roberson, Sr. and Julius H. Mappus, Jr.

The family expresses their gratitude to the clergy and many friends who comforted them and held them close during the past weeks and will continue to appreciate their prayerful support. The family is thankful that Jules is now at peace. Jules was a loving individual and will be dearly missed.
