Judith "Judy" Anne Smith, aged 85, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Born on December 22, 1940, in Dunellen, New Jersey, Judith was the beloved daughter of the late William Varga and the late Catherine Marencek Varga.

Throughout her life, Judith distinguished herself professionally as an insurance underwriter, a role in which she excelled and was recognized for her leadership, notably serving as president of an insurance women's association. Yet, beyond her career, she was known for a vibrant array of interests that enriched her life and those around her. She delighted in various forms of dance including line and belly dancing, embraced the discipline of tai chi, and nurtured a lifelong passion for travel. Among her many journeys, annual visits to Disney World were a cherished tradition that brought her great joy. Ultimately, her greatest happiness stemmed from spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children: Lori S. Bullard and her husband Charles of Hanahan, South Carolina; and Jeffrey W. Smith with his wife Margaret of Charleston, South Carolina. She was a proud grandmother to Samantha Roberts and her husband Daniel, Mercedes Register (Brian Ouse), Megan Minkin, John Dickson (Kelly Joffin), Nicole Bullard (Seth Clark), and Anna Bullard (Payton Jackson). Her spirit lives on through her cherished great-grandchildren: Kaliyah West, Hadley Roberts, Hunter Roberts, Ansley Minkin, and Welles Minkin. Judith is also survived by her brother, Richard Varga of New Jersey, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph Smith, and son, John Richard Smith.

A Funeral Service to honor Judith’s life will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 11:00 am at the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, located at 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. The family will receive friends at the chapel one hour prior to the service. Following the service, interment will take place at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
