Juanita "Nita" Frances Teasley Byrum

March 5, 1922 — September 27, 2021

Juanita "Nita" Frances Teasley Byrum, 99, passed away peacefully at Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Home on Monday, September 27, 2021. Nita Byrum was a 32-year resident of Sullivan's Island and was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, J. Harold Byrum, in 2001. She was born March 5, 1922, in Anderson, SC, the daughter of the late George Glenn Teasley and the late Bessie McCurley Teasley.

After raising a family in the SC Upcountry, having a twelve year career with the finance department of Converse College and a short retirement, she was persuaded to move to the coast and manage a small family-run bed and breakfast inn, The Palmettos, on Sullivan's Island. For ten years, her radiantly sociable disposition, her boundless energy and her infectious smile greeted everyone who graced this little corner of paradise. She blossomed in her new role, for it was a work of love. Now she has passed on and is no longer with us, but she will never be forgotten by those closest to her, nor by those hundreds of guests that fell under her spell.

Nita Byrum is survived by her daughter, Jeri B. England of Columbia, formerly Sullivan's Island, and her son, James H. Byrum, Jr. (M. Elizabeth Crum) of Columbia, as well as nieces and nephews, Randy Teasley of Pendleton, Charlton Patterson and Glenn Patterson of Spartanburg, Norman Teasley of Oak Ridge, Harley West and Gregg of Greensboro, NC.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 8, 2021, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant, SC. A private burial will be held in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be sent to Pet Helpers, Adoption Center and Spay/Neuter Clinic, 1447 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412, or a charity of your choice.
