Joyner Harding Wallace, Jr., 95, of North Charleston, SC, died Monday, May 21, 2012 peacefully at home.
Born June 4, 1916 in Charleston, SC; he was one of seven children of Joyner Harding Wallace, Sr. and Ellen Atkinson Wallace. He was a US Army veteran of WWII and received the Victory Medal and German Occupation Medal. He retired as a welder after 37 years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He belonged to the Carolina Masonic Lodge #375 in Hanahan and was a charter member of the Order of The Eastern Star Hanahan Chapter #250. He was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church for 65 years and a member of Ritter Hunt Club.
Mr. Wallace is survived by his son, Walter Joyner Wallace and his wife Katherine of Montgomery, AL; daughter, Maureen Wallace Cartrett of North Charleston, SC; brother, Wesley Hartwell Wallace and his wife Barbara of Moncks Corner, SC; four grandchildren: Walter Joyner Wallace Jr., Kelly Wallace Steele, Teresa Cartrett Gage and William Harold Cartrett, Jr.; nine great-grandchildren: Walter Joyner Wallace III, Hunter Wallace, Nathan Steele, Jordon Steele, Morgan Steele, Sierra Gage, Sean Gage, Taylor Cartrett and Justin Cartrett. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Frances Elizabeth Wallace; brothers, Howard, Lester and Robert; and sisters, Mildred and Lucinda.
The funeral service will be held at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTH AREA CHAPEL, 2119 Dorchester Road, Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 10:00 am. Interment with military honors will follow at Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in Stuhr's North Area Chapel Wednesday, May 23, 2012 between 4:00 and 7:00 pm. Order of the Eastern Star and Masonic Rites begin at 7:00 pm.
