Joyce Ackerman Stelling, 101, of Summerville, South Carolina, widow of John Harold Stelling, entered into eternal rest Sunday, February 26, 2023. Her funeral service will be held Friday, March 3, 2023 at 10:30 am at The Church of Jesus Christ LDS, 2100 Bacon's Bridge Rd., Summerville, SC, 29485. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, 3715 Azalea Drive, North Charleston. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel.
Joyce was born December 27, 1921 in Bishopville, SC, daughter of the late Fleming David Ackerman and Lula Miller Ackerman. She began working as a youngster in her father's drug store, Ackerman's Drug Store, which was on the corner of Spring and Ashley in Charleston, where she eventually met her future husband! Later in life, Joyce was a salesperson in the retail clothing industry, and was especially fond of children's clothing and fashion. She found her niche selling clothing, and worked for Sharon's, The Yard Child and Belk Department stores for the majority of her working life. Joyce enjoyed crafts, crocheting and was an excellent baker and often baked the wedding cakes for the family weddings.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Laura Marie Waters (Kevin) and John Kotab (Kirsten); four great-granddaughters, Kelsey Rodriguez (Justice), Samantha Jacobsen (Dax), Leah Waters (Brett) and Emma Waters; four great-great-grandchildren, Todd Tackett, Elliana Tackett, Charlotte Rodriguez and Everett Kotab; nieces and nephews, Joyce Hall (Clyde), Jake Rowell (Mary) and Willard Rowell (Lynn).
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, John Harold Stelling, Jr.; three sisters, Willard Rowell, Tina Fersner and Bea Moore; one brother, F.D. Ackerman.
