Joyce Wise Mitchum

Joyce W. Mitchum, 84, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, widow of Russell Cline Mitchum died Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 24, 2017 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Joyce was born July 15, 1932 on Sullivans Island, South Carolina, daughter of the late Furman D. Wise, Sr. and the late Evelyn Ventors Wise. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Joyce was a caregiver most of her life. For over a decade, she enjoyed volunteering as a Guardian ad Litem helping displaced children and their families. Her door was always open for those in need.

She is survived by her children, Russell Cline Mitchum, Jr., Francis Craig Mitchum (Ruby), and Denise Mitchum Meyer, all of Mount Pleasant, SC; her nine grandchildren, Faith Struthers LePrince (Kevin), Matthew James Pahno, Alexander Craig Mitchum (Liz), Ariel Denise Brown (Derek), Michael Luke Pahno, Rachel Mitchum Chigges (Nick), Ashley Mitchum Razumich (Josh), Halford Eye Meyer, III and Hayden Seabrook Meyer; eight (soon to be nine) great-grandchildren, Landen, Leila, Gavin, Mason, Jonas, William, Olivia, and Henry; and her four siblings, Agnes Koeper, Furman Wise, Jr., Mack Wise (Gloria), and Susie Bennett.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Mitchum Pahno; her grandson, Russell DeLeon Mitchum; and her brother, Robert Wise (Ann).
